Using CBCT scans and an intraoral scanner, we can assess the position of the wisdom teeth and their relationship to the jawbone, nearby teeth, and nerves. If a tooth is close to a nerve, Dr. Albadawi reviews the risks and available options and plans an approach designed to minimize irritation to nearby structures.

In some cases, immediate removal is not necessary. We may recommend monitoring a wisdom tooth over time and comparing images for changes.

Before surgery, Dr. Albadawi reviews your imaging and performs a brief exam. We also review your medical history, medications, allergies, and any factors that could affect treatment.

Our office uses local anesthesia and can combine it with IV sedation when appropriate. The type of anesthesia or sedation recommended will depend on your procedure and comfort needs.

Most wisdom teeth extractions take approximately 30–60 minutes, although more complex cases may take longer. Our trained team monitors your vital signs throughout the procedure and stays with you during recovery until you are alert and stable.

When appropriate, we may also use a 3D printer to create surgical guides or models to assist with treatment planning.

If you take medications that can affect bleeding, we will review them before surgery and coordinate with your physician when needed.

If you will receive IV sedation:

• Follow the fasting instructions provided by our office.

• Arrange for someone to drive you home.

• Plan to have a responsible adult available to help during the first 24 hours.

• Wear comfortable clothing and avoid jewelry.

• Bring a loose, short-sleeve shirt if you will have an IV placed.

• Bring your ID and any relevant imaging from another dental office.

If you take blood thinners or have a chronic medical condition, contact our office with any questions before your procedure.

Many patients plan for at least two days of lighter activity after surgery. Depending on the procedure and how you feel, you may be able to return to desk work or school within 48–72 hours.

Most patients heal substantially within about a week, although recovery varies depending on the number and position of the teeth removed.

Swelling peaks around 48–72 hours after surgery. We will give you detailed postoperative instructions to help manage discomfort and protect the extraction sites as they heal.

During recovery, you may be advised to:

• Use ice packs during the first day.

• Switch to warm compresses after 48 hours if needed.

• Eat soft foods such as yogurt, mashed potatoes, cooled soup, and smoothies without a straw.

• Avoid vigorous rinsing during the first 24 hours.

• Follow the cleaning instructions provided by our team.

We provide post-operative support and can arrange a follow-up visit when appropriate. Sutures can also be removed when needed.
