Before recommending sedation, Dr. Albadawi reviews your medical history, medications, procedure, and recovery needs. We explain your options clearly so you know what to expect before the day of treatment.

Roseville Oral Surgery Center offers several levels of sedation depending on your needs, health history, and procedure.

Nitrous oxide may be appropriate for patients with mild dental anxiety who want help relaxing during treatment. It takes effect quickly and generally wears off soon after discontinuation.

IV sedation provides a deeper level of relaxation and may be recommended for patients with greater anxiety or more involved oral surgery procedures. An IV is placed before treatment, and your vital signs are monitored throughout the procedure.

IV sedation may also reduce how much you remember about the procedure. Because recovery varies from patient to patient, we monitor you afterward until you are stable and ready for discharge.

General anesthesia may be appropriate for certain procedures or patients who need to be fully asleep during treatment. It involves a qualified anesthesia team and appropriate monitoring throughout the procedure.

Patients receiving general anesthesia will receive specific instructions about fasting, medications, transportation, and recovery before their appointment.

Sedation dentistry may be helpful for patients who experience dental anxiety, have a strong gag reflex, have difficulty sitting comfortably through longer procedures, or need more complex oral surgery.

Sedation may also be considered for procedures such as tooth extractions and dental implant surgery when appropriate for the patient's needs.

Dr. Albadawi evaluates your medical history, age, medications, allergies, and planned procedure before recommending a sedation level. We also discuss alternatives when appropriate.

For children and adults with special needs, we plan sedation with behavior, comfort, and safety in mind.

Before your procedure, our team will review your health history and provide instructions about eating, medications, and transportation.

Depending on the type of sedation you receive, you may be asked to:

• Follow specific fasting instructions

• Adjust certain medications as directed

• Arrive approximately 30 minutes early for consent and baseline vital signs

• Bring a responsible adult to drive you home

• Plan time to rest after your procedure

If IV sedation is recommended, we will explain IV placement and what you can expect before treatment begins.

During sedation, our team monitors your condition and adjusts care based on the treatment plan.

Monitoring may include:

• Blood pressure

• Heart rate

• Oxygen levels

• Pulse oximetry

• ECG monitoring when needed

Our clinical staff receives regular training in sedation protocols and emergency response. We also maintain emergency equipment and routinely check our monitoring equipment and oxygen supplies.

Recovery depends on the type of sedation you receive and your individual response.

After your procedure, we monitor you until you are stable and provide oral and written aftercare instructions. Depending on the sedation used, you may need a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you during the early part of your recovery.

We also review pain control, activity restrictions, and follow-up instructions before you leave. Our team will call the next day to check on your recovery.

Before your procedure, you will meet with the surgical team, review consent forms, and discuss your recovery plan so you understand what to expect.

Transportation requirements depend on the type of sedation you receive. Patients receiving IV sedation or general anesthesia should plan to have a responsible adult available to drive them home.

Our team will give you specific transportation and aftercare instructions before your procedure.

Sedation may be used during tooth extractions, dental implant procedures, and other oral surgery procedures when appropriate.
