For patients dealing with loose dentures, widespread tooth loss, or failing teeth, All-on-4 may provide a more stable way to restore chewing, speaking, and confidence. We explain your options clearly so you understand what treatment involves and what to expect at each stage.
What Are All-on-4 Dental Implants?
All-on-4 uses four dental implants to support a fixed full-arch restoration. Instead of replacing every missing tooth with an individual implant, the implants are positioned to support an entire upper or lower arch.
For eligible patients, All-on-4 may offer several advantages, including fewer implants and the possibility of avoiding additional bone grafting. Patients who meet the requirements for immediate loading may also be able to leave surgery with a fixed temporary bridge while the implants heal.
Because every patient's bone structure, oral health, and treatment needs are different, Dr. Samer Albadawi will evaluate whether All-on-4 is appropriate for you and discuss other options when needed.
What is the Process for Getting All-on-4s?
Treatment at Roseville Oral Surgery Center begins with a consultation and detailed imaging. We use a CBCT scanner to evaluate jawbone volume and important anatomical structures, including nerve locations.
An intraoral scanner can digitally capture your bite, while 3D planning technology helps determine proposed implant positions. When appropriate, our team can also use a 3D printer to create surgical guides and provisional restorations.
Dr. Samer Albadawi reviews the digital treatment plan with you and explains practical details, including anesthesia options, estimated chair time, recovery, and follow-up care.
What Happens on the Day of Surgery?
On the day of surgery, our team reviews your treatment plan and prepares the area for implant placement. After the appropriate anesthesia is administered, Dr. Samer Albadawi places the implants in accordance with your surgical plan.
If your implants have sufficient stability for immediate loading and your case meets the appropriate clinical criteria, you may receive a fixed temporary bridge the same day. Not every patient qualifies for immediate placement of a provisional bridge, and we will explain what is appropriate for your case before treatment.
After surgery, you will receive instructions for pain management, diet, oral hygiene, and wound care. Follow-up visits allow us to monitor healing and implant health. Once the implants have had time to integrate with the jawbone, the final restoration can be completed.
How Do All-on-4 Implants Compare With Other Options?
All-on-4 can be an alternative to removable dentures or treatment plans that use a larger number of individual implants. Depending on your anatomy and oral health, potential benefits may include:
- A fixed restoration that does not need to be removed like a traditional denture
- Improved stability when chewing and speaking
- Fewer implants than replacing each missing tooth individually
- The possibility of avoiding bone grafting in appropriate cases
- A temporary fixed bridge on the day of surgery for qualifying patients
During your consultation, we will compare All-on-4 with other suitable treatment options so you can consider factors such as comfort, treatment time, maintenance, cost, and long-term goals.
Who May Be a Candidate for All-on-4?
All-on-4 may be considered for people who are missing most or all of the teeth in an upper or lower arch, have failing teeth that may need to be removed, or are looking for a more stable alternative to removable dentures.
Candidacy depends on several individual factors, including your bone structure, oral health, medical history, and treatment goals. A consultation and CBCT scan allow Dr. Samer Albadawi to determine whether All-on-4 or another full-arch treatment approach is appropriate.
Do All-on-4 Dental Implants Require Bone Grafting?
One advantage of the All-on-4 approach is that it may reduce the need for bone grafting in some patients. Implant placement is planned around the available bone, which can make full-arch treatment possible without additional grafting procedures in certain cases.
However, bone grafting cannot always be avoided. Your CBCT scan will help us evaluate your bone volume and determine what your treatment requires.
Can You Get Teeth the Same Day?
Some patients can receive a fixed temporary bridge on the same day their implants are placed. This is sometimes referred to as immediate loading or same-day teeth.
Whether this is possible depends on factors such as implant stability and your individual treatment plan. We will let you know before surgery whether a same-day provisional restoration is expected in your case.
How Do I Care for My Full-Arch Restoration?
Good oral hygiene and regular follow-up care are important for protecting the health of your implants and surrounding tissues. Although restorations cannot develop cavities like natural teeth, plaque and bacteria can still accumulate around the implants and gums.
Our team will show you how to clean around your restoration and may recommend brushes or interdental cleaning tools based on your needs. Regular checkups also allow us to monitor your implants, tissues, and restoration for changes or wear.
